On 20th March 2016, Leicester City Women were gearing up for their home game against Rotherham United Ladies, knowing that a victory would seal promotion back to the Northern Division after a 3 year absence.

Whilst there was an air of nervousness around the ground as kick off approached, it was gone just 15 minutes into the game as a Helen Busby brace had come either side of an impressive lob from Gabby Reid.

The Foxes continued to dominate the opening encounters and two goals from Chan Robinson saw Jonathan Morgan’s side into a 5-0 lead inside the opening 20 minutes.

With promotion seemingly already sealed, you could forgive Leicester for easing up but that wasn’t to be the case as Kayleigh Hillier pushed forward down the right hand side to fire in her side’s 6th of the afternoon before Helen Busby saw the ball bounce kindly in the area to allow her to slot home for her hat-trick.

5 minutes before the break, Helen Busby netted her 4th, and Leicester’s 8th, after some good work from Chan Robinson saw the ball break to Busby with an empty net to aim for.

The City striker was enjoying an incredible scoring patch having netted a hat-trick two weeks ago as City came from behind to beat Radcliffe Olympic 3-2, after the Rotherham match, Busby again netted 4 in a 4-0 win over Sporting Khalsa.

In the second half, Rotherham restricted Leicester’s chances but Kayleigh Hillier found herself in space on the edge of the area to fire home her second of the afternoon before substitute Rosie Axten was on hand to take the scoring into double figures just 5 minutes from time.

Leicester went onto win their remaining 3 matches, including a dramatic stoppage time winner against Wolves, to record an historic perfect season winning all 22 of their league games.
