Preview: LCWFC vs Aston Villa

Leicester City Women return to Continental Cup action tomorrow as Aston Villa travel to Farley Way Stadium for matchday three of Group Stage One North. 

  • Leicester City Women have 2 points from their opening two Cup games, a penalty shoot-out victory over Bristol City before their 4-0 defeat to Manchester City.
  • Aston Villa are still looking for their first win in the competition having suffered defeats to Sheffield United and Birmingham City in the previous two rounds.
  • The final two rounds take place in December, Leicester host Birmingham City in the penultimate round before travelling to Sheffield United.

Jonathan Morgan’s side return to Continental Cup action tomorrow with Aston Villa Ladies the visitors to Farley Way Stadium. Both sides will be looking to collect all three points to keep them in contention for qualification to the knockout stages of the Continental Cup.

Leicester City Women will be looking to build on their 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace Ladies in the opening round of the FA Women’s Championship last Sunday. The Foxes then host Tottenham Hotspur Ladies in their first home league game of the season on Wednesday night.

Aston Villa Ladies will be looking for a response to last week’s 12-0 defeat to Manchester United

Leicester City Women are in action at Farley Way Stadium for the first time since the opening round of the Continental Cup. They face Aston Villa Ladies at home on Sunday 16 September, kick off at 2pm.

Tickets are available on the gate tomorrow, priced at £5 Adults and £2.50 for Concessions/U16s.

Ella Franklin-Fraiture is still out with a dislocated collarbone, whilst Taome Oliver came off in the second half away to Crystal Palace and it’s unclear how long she may be out for. Leigh Dugmore will be looking to return to the squad having missed last Sunday’s match through illness.

Aston Villa

Hayley Crackle and Amy West both missed last Sunday’s league opener through injury and will be looking to return as soon as possible. Whilst new signing Evie Gane will also be looking for her first appearance in a Claret and Blue shirt.

These two sides have met eight times in previous years, but haven’t met in a competitive match since 2013. The last meeting between the two sides ended with Aston Villa winning 3-0 in a FA Women’s Premier League Cup match. Abbey-Leigh Stringer scored twice before Kelly Clarke came off the bench to seal the win. Sherry McCue and Maddy Cusack both started the game for Aston Villa.

Leicester City Women kicked off their FA Women’s Championship with a 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace Ladies. Goals in either half from Melissa Johnson and Holly Morgan were enough to seal the first three points of the season.

Aston Villa will quickly want to put last Sunday’s match behind them, a 12-0 defeat to Manchester United Women. They will arrive at Farley Way Stadium tomorrow looking for an immediate response.


  • Aston Villa Ladies are looking for their first win of the season after three successive defeats.
  • Leicester City Women are unbeaten at home in cup competitions since March 2017. A run of six successive cup victories on home soil.
  • The Foxes have only won two of the previous eight meetings between these sides, both of those victories came back in 2008/09, their first season in the FA Women’s Premier League.
