Leicester City Women’s Reserves have reached the Semi Finals of the Leicestershire FA County Cup following a dramatic victory over FA WNL Southern Division side Loughborough Foxes.

The match finished 3-3 in normal time before eighteen penalties were needed to decide a winner.

Loughborough Foxes, who sit fourth in the FA WNL Southern Division, had taken the lead early on in the game but Leicester City levelled the scores shortly before half time when Fiona Worts fired a low shot into the corner of the net at the second attempt.

In the second half, Worts put Leicester City in front, netting from a tight angle, beating the keeper from close range after some well worked play in the build-up.

With ten minutes left to play, the home side combined well to level the scores again, Becky McGrother showed composure to chip the ball over the diving Serena Clarke and restore parity ahead of a nervy finish.

Leah Grant’s side looked to have won it two minutes from time, Natasha Hudson’s deep ball into the box was expertly headed down into the net from substitute Gracie Williams at the back post.

The hosts responded again however, with former City player Becky Knight providing the late drama, heading a free-kick beyond Clarke to send the tie to penalties.

After eighteen penalties, it fell to Alex O’Neill to fire home the winning penalty. Making no mistake from 12-yards out, the defender calmly slotted into the corner, sealing a memorable victory for Leicester City Women.
