Leicester City v Aston Villa Ladies

Leicester City extended their unbeaten run to three matches with a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa Ladies with both goals coming in the first half.

The Foxes came out of the blocks quickly with Leigh Dugmore and Freda Ayisi creating early chances to test the visiting keeper.

It was the visitors who took the lead however, with left-sided attacker Jodie Hutton causing problems on the wing. The winger collected the ball just in front of the back line before cutting inside and slotting the ball home in the 20th minute.

The visitors nearly doubled their lead minutes later when Kerri Welsh headed goalwards when unmarked in the box but Demi Lambourne came up with a big save to keep the Foxes in it.

With two minutes remaining of the first half, Leigh Dugmore was tripped by Asmita Ale as she tried to get a shot away from close range giving Rosie Axten the opportunity to calmly slot the ball past Sian Rogers from the spot.

Axten could have doubled her tally early in the second half when a fine move straight from kick off saw Axten fire narrowly over the bar from Leigh Dugmore’s cross.

Aston Villa also had an early chance in the second half to get back in front, A deep cross into the box found Kerri Welsh who saw her looping header come back off the foot of the post.

The Foxes had two glorious chances in the final five minutes to win the game, Freda Ayisi sliced a shot wide after good work on the wing from Leigh Dugmore before substitute Nicole Nymoen headed over from a free-kick in stoppage time.
