Serena Fletcher signs for Leicester City Women

Leicester City Women have captured the signing of promising young defender Serena Fletcher ahead of the 2018/19 FA Women’s Championship season.

  • Serena Fletcher arrives at Leicester City having left Manchester City Women at the end of the 2017/18 season.
  • The 19-year-old won the league and cup double with Manchester City’s Development side last season.
  • The defender represented England under-20s in the La Manga Tournament earlier this year.

The 19-year-old joins the Foxes having made 13 appearances for Manchester City’s Development side in 2017/18 and becomes City’s second summer signing, following the addition of striker Melissa Johnson from Sheffield FC.

Fletcher has signed an initial one-year contract with Leicester City Women and will be up against her former Club shortly, with Jonathan Morgan’s side going head-to-head with Manchester City Women in the Continental Tyres Cup on Sunday 26 August.

Speaking to LCWFC TV, Fletcher said: “I’m very excited for my new challenge in the Championship at a very ambitious and passionate Club. I can’t wait to start the season with some incredible team mates and staff behind me.”

Leicester City Women Manager Jonathan Morgan said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to bring Serena in to the Club, she’s a young England international with a lot of potential and she’s already got a high pedigree.

“From when we first met Serena, I knew she would fit in well with our squad and she’s only going to get stronger, thankfully that will be with Leicester City Women.”

Serena Fletcher has joined the Foxes ahead of the 2018/19 season.

The defender started her career with Manchester United progressing through the ranks in their academy before making the switch to Liverpool Ladies at 16-years-old.

Serena made 20 appearances over two seasons for Liverpool Ladies and finished the 2016/17 season by winning the FA WSL Development League title before confirming a switch back to Manchester to join Manchester City Women.

Fletcher again won the Development League title with Manchester City along with the Development League Cup after a 3-1 win over Birmingham City Ladies at St Georges Park.
