Speaking to LCWFC TV, Sherry McCue said: “I’m really excited for this new challenge and I’m grateful to have the opportunity to play at a Club with so much potential. I hope to keep improving my own game with some top players around me and quality coaches.

Hopefully we can have a good season and finish as high up the league as possible.”

Leicester City Women Manager, Jonathan Morgan said: “Sherry is a great signing. We lost our number four from last season due to other commitments and Sherry has come in and picked up where Paige [Stewart] left off.

Sherry plays the game simple, she is a master of the position and I am excited to work with her more throughout this season.”

The midfielder started her career with Stoke City Girls’ Centre of Excellence before joining Aston Villa Ladies in 2012. McCue spent four seasons with Aston Villa Ladies including winning the FA Women’s Premier League Cup in 2013 – alongside new Leicester City team-mate Maddy Cusack.

Sherry made an instant impact after signing for Sheffield FC and was named Players’ Player at the end of the 2016 season. The midfielder will be hoping to make a strong start with Leicester City Women in their first game of the season tomorrow (Sunday 19 August).
