Team News

City

Ella Franklin-Fraiture is Leicester’s only absence heading into the match, the defender dislocated her collarbone in a pre-season match and is likely to be out until later in the year.

Other than Ella, Manager Jonathan Morgan has a fully fit side to chose from, with a further five players potentially in line for their Leicester City debuts.

Man City

New signing Janine Beckie is unlikely to make the squad having only arrived at the Club from America this week, Manchester City will also be without Ellie Roebuck, Esme Morgan, Lauren Hemp and Georgia Stanway who yesterday picked up a bronze medal with England’s in the Under 20s World Cup.

Seven of Manchester City’s side have been named in Phil Neville’s senior England side for their two qualifiers during the international break next weekend.

Head-to-Head

These two sides have met on nine previous occasions, all coming before the introduction of the Women’s Super League and Manchester City’s name change.

Leicester City Women have won five of the previous meetings with Manchester City Ladies taking three wins with just one draw between them.

The Last Time

The last meeting between these two sides came on the final day of the 2010/11 FA Women’s Premier League season, the Foxes came from behind to pick up a vital three points to finish above Manchester City in third.

Leicester’s goals came from Annabel Johnson and Courtney Sweetman-Kirk whilst Manchester City’s opener came from Krystle Johnston.

Stats

  • Out of the previous nine meetings, the away side has picked up maximum points on eight occasions with the other match ending in a 1-1 draw.
  • Leicester City Women are looking for their second win against WSL opposition following last weekend’s penalty shoot-out win against Bristol City. The match is only Leicester’s second ever away trip to face top-tier opposition, following a 3-1 defeat to Doncaster Belles in 2009.
  • Last season, Manchester City won all four of their Continental Cup matches in 90 minutes, conceding just three goals across their six game run to the final before losing 1-0 to Arsenal.
