Leicester City Women Football Club

Preview: London Bees vs LCWFC

Leicester City Women travel to London Bees tomorrow for their final league match of 2018, looking to return to winning ways following back-to-back defeats.

  • The Foxes lost 4-0 to Charlton Athletic in the Championship before a 6-0 defeat against Birmingham City in the Continental Cup
  • Jonathan Morgan’s side beat London Bees 4-2 at Farley Way Stadium in September
  • London Bees have won both of their past two matches to climb to seventh in the table

The Foxes will look to bounce back from back-to-back defeats tomorrow, as they travel to face London Bees at The Hive. Jonathan Morgan’s side picked up the result of the round two weeks ago with their 2-0 victory over Durham but failed to build on the win, falling to a 4-0 defeat to Riteesh Mishra’s Charlton Athletic.

Leicester City Women will be looking to end 2018 on a high, hoping to repeat their earlier victory over London Bees at Farley Way Stadium in September. Goals from Rosie Axten, Leigh Dugmore, Freda Ayisi and Nicole Nymoen secured the Foxes their first home win of the season.

These two sides have met just once before, in September when the Foxes won 4-2 at Farley Way Stadium. Rosie Axten, Freda Ayisi and Leigh Dugmore put City into a commanding 3-0 lead in the first half before the visitors pulled one back from the penalty spot. Twenty minutes from time, London Bees scored a second goal from close range before Nicole Nymoen’s goal sealed the three points with seven minutes to play.

Last time out

Jonathan Morgan and his backroom staff will be hoping to head into the new year on the back of a positive result, defeats to Charlton Athletic and Birmingham City in the past week have halted the Foxes progress after an impressive 2-0 win over Durham. The 6-0 defeat to Birmingham City came in the penultimate match of the Continental Cup but saw a spirited performance from the Foxes against the Super League side.

London Bees

Luke Swindlehurst’s side weren’t in action last Sunday, but will be looking to carry on their impressive form after back-to-back wins over Sheffield United and Aston Villa. The Bees 3-1 win over Aston Villa last time out saw them into seventh in the table, and victory tomorrow could see them rise to fifth.

  • Victory for the Foxes will see them close the gap on the top four who have started to pull away in recent weeks.
  • Defeat however, could see Leicester City drop as low as eight in the FA Women’s Championship.
  • London Bees will be looking for their third consecutive win, they’ve won three and lost two of their five home matches so far.
