Jake Poole: we had to grind out the win

Leicester City Women had to dig deep to earn the three points following their 3-2 win over Millwall Lionesses at Farley Way Stadium, says First Team Coach Jake Poole.

The Foxes opened the scoring inside the second minute when Melissa Johnson fired home after neat build up from a corner. The visitors levelled the scores on the half-hour mark before Libby Smith restored Leicester City’s lead from the penalty spot.

Ella Franklin-Fraiture gave Leicester a two-goal cushion in the second half before Millwall pulled one back from the spot with just under 15 minutes left to play. Leicester City Women stood firm to record a 3-2 win over Millwall.

“We’re delighted with the result, I don’t think the performance was quite there today” Poole told LCWFC TV. “we weren’t at our best. It’s good to get the three points when we’re not at our best.

“I don’t think we were as good on the ball today as we were last week, the high pressing game maybe didn’t work as well as it did last week.

“I thought we showed good character and ground out the result in the end. We’re a little bit disappointed with the goals, they’re a little it sloppy but it’s good to get the result in the end.”

After the international break, Leicester City Women travel to face Aston Villa Ladies at Villa Park, with Jake Poole hoping that the squad can manage the occasion in front of a big crowd.

“Obviously it’s a big game, at Villa Park. It’ll be a big day out but we’ve got to keep the momentum going now, keep the performances and another three points hopefully.”

Poole added “We’ll prepare just as we have for every other game, we’ve had experience of a big occasion at Manchester City already this season so I think we’re well prepared for that.”
