Reserves out of County Cup after narrow defeat

Leicester City Women’s Reserves exited the Leicestershire FA County Cup on Sunday after a narrow 2-1 defeat to Oadby & Wigston Ladies in the Semi Final.

  • The hosts netted twice in the first half at Meadows Sports Ground
  • Shannon Henson looked to spark a late comeback with her well taken goal ten minutes from time
  • Defender Rachel Brown had the ball in the net inside stoppage time but was ruled out for offside

Leah Grant’s side suffered their first defeat of the season last Sunday as they fell to a 2-1 defeat to Oadby & Wigston Ladies in the Semi Final of the Leicestershire FA County Cup.

First half goals from Chloe Quinn and Lucy Phillips-Poole helped the hosts into a 2-0 lead as the Foxes struggled to find their usual rhythm which had seen them reach the semi finals of both the County Cup and the League Cup.

Shannon Henson found the net for Leicester City in the second half, but Leah Grant’s side had to wait until final five minutes until they eventually broke the resolve of the home side.

The youngster netted her 18th goal of the season with a neat finish from just inside the area as she tucked the ball home via the inside of the upright.

Leicester City did have the ball in the net a second time, inside stoppage time, but the assistant referee’s flag denied Rachel Brown a deserved equaliser after plenty of pressure in the second half.

The defeat is Leicester City’s first defeat of the season, ending a run of 18 games stretching back to the final game of the 2017/18 season.

A chance to get back to winning ways next Sunday, the Foxes are back in cup action as Charlton Athletic Women’s Reserves visit Riverside Pavilion for the FA WNL Reserves Cup Semi Final with Leah Grant’s side looking to reach the final for the first time.
