Reserves beaten in League Cup Semi Final

  • Leah Grant’s side beaten 3-0 by Charlton Athletic
  • The Foxes were in the final four for the first time since 2014
  • Leicester City Women had conceded just once in the competition this season

Leicester City Women’s Reserves exited the FA WNL Reserve Cup yesterday after a 3-0 defeat to Charlton Athletic in the Semi Final.

The Foxes had only conceded once in the competition so far this season, as they knocked Crewe Alexandra, Derby County and Chichester City out of the previous rounds but came up against a strong Charlton Athletic side.

Despite a strong start to the match for Leicester City, it was the visitors who took the lead as Melanie Parreno netted the opening goal after 20 minutes, volleying the ball home from the edge of the area

Leah Grant’s side regrouped and were unlucky not to find themselves level at half time, with Annie Taylor narrowly putting a free-kick over the bar before Shannon Henson was played in on goal but the visiting keeper was out quickly to deny her.

Charlton Athletic doubled their lead on the hour mark, Shamoy Campbell finished from a tight angle across the goal before Georgia Peach finished off the scoring seven minutes later. The midfielder picked up a loose ball in the middle of the pitch before turning and lifting the ball over the goalkeeper.

Leicester City struggled for chances in the second half as the visitors looked to see out their victory, Imogen Hunt tried an effort from distance before Alex Oneill broke into the area but saw her shot blocked just before the full-time whistle.

The Foxes now turn their attentions to the FA WSL Academy Cup as they face Arsenal Academy over a two-legged tie looking to progress to a second-round match against Chelsea.
