Reserves raring to go for new season

Leicester City Women’s Reserves are raring to go ahead of their new season which kicks off on Sunday 2 September away to Burton Albion Ladies at St George’s Park

– Leah Grant will take charge of the side for her second season after finishing fourth in the division last year
– LCWFC Reserves set to take on Burton Albion Ladies in opening fixture on Sunday 2 September
– The Foxes will compete in the FA Women’s National League – Midlands Reserves Division for the 2018/19 season

Leicester City Women Reserves Manager Leah Grant is feeling positive ahead of the new season which gets underway on Sunday 2 September 2018, Grant led her side to a fourth placed finish last season and is hoping to build on some positive results and performances from her first season in management.

“I’m really excited for the season to start now, especially after what seems like a really long pre-season. We’ve been really pleased with the girls attitude in training throughout pre-season and the performances we’ve given against some top sides.”

The Foxes kick off their season against Burton Albion Ladies, a side which Leicester beat three times last season in both League and Cup and will be hoping for a repeat performance to get their season off to a perfect start.

Leah Grant’s side face back-to-back away games to start the season, having been drawn away to Midlands Reserve Division newcomers Crewe Alexandra Ladies in the first round of the FAWNL Reserves Cup, with that match scheduled to take place on Sunday 9 September.

Having reached the third round of the Reserves Cup last season, the Foxes were disappointed to exit the competition in a close 2-1 defeat to Derby County and will be looking to improve their results this time around.

City have retained their squad from last season with a number of exciting additions and Manager Leah Grant is looking forward to seeing how they settle in;

“I’m pleased to have retained all of our girls from last season, and we’ve extended our squad with some excellent new additions too. They’ve all performed well in pre-season, so hopefully we can carry that on into the start of the season.”

Foxes fans are welcome to support Leah Grant’s side away at Burton Albion, the match is a 2pm kick off at St George’s Park, Newborough Road, Needwood, Burton-Upon-Trent, DE13 9PD.

City’s first home match sees them face local rivals Nottingham Forest Ladies on Sunday 16 September at Riverside Pavilion.
