Leicester City Women Football Club

Reserves Review: Half-Way Recap

After LCWFC’s trip to Derby County was called off last Sunday, Leah Grant took the time to reflect on the first half of the season, and re-evaluate Leicester’s aims for the season.

“It was a shame to have a break in fixtures today due to a cancellation but we will now focus on two strong training sessions this week to prepare us for the long trip to Cardiff next weekend.”

The foxes currently sit second in the table, one game and one point behind leaders Coventry United and face a tough trip to third place Cardiff City Ladies looking to regain top-spot.

Leicester’s second-top goal scorer for the season, Gabby Foulkes is impressed with Leicester’s effort and commitment in their matches so far;

“In terms of this season so far, we have had a few games which have challenged us and tested our strength as a team, but we have always put 100% effort in regardless of the score and have always tried to keep a high tempo in the game.”

“Sometimes we have been unlucky not to get three points, however we will bounce back and continue to show resilience throughout the rest of the season. Looking to Cardiff away next week, we will need to be strong and determined to achieve the 3 points we all want.”

The trip to Cardiff poses a tough test for Leah Grant’s side, with the bluebirds three points behind Leicester with a game in hand. Postponements to a number of games throughout the opening months means that both Derby and Stoke City have only played 6 matches, and could both go top of the league should they win their games in hand.

Just before the halfway mark in the league, Leah Grant is pleased with the club’s progress this season and their position in the table;

“Based on the league table right now, we are happy with our position and we know exactly what we need to do to push on and really challenge for the title.”

“We have some big fixtures on the way but I believe in our squad and believe we will make a mark on this league this season! Our plan starts on Sunday at Cardiff with 3 points.”
