Leicester kicked off November with a dramatic match away to newly promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers Women, with both sides netting inside the opening 15 minutes. Leigh Dugmore opened the scoring for the visitors as she ran onto a deflected cross from Hayley James and side footed the ball under the keeper for the opening goal.

5 minutes later and the hosts’ had equalised, a deep corner in towards the back of the box found Price unmarked and she rose to head the ball back across Goal and restore parity.

The scores remained level until 10 minutes before the break when a well worked free kick from Paige Stewart found Rachel Brown unmarked and the youngster sent a looping header into the back of the net to notch her first goal in senior football and restore Leicester’s lead.

In the second half, Leicester extended their lead through Olivia Mitcham. Sophie Domingo went on a driving run down the left hand side before pulling a low cross back into the box with Mitcham on hand to poke the ball home underneath the goalkeeper. City’s two goal lead however lasted less than 90 seconds, as Wolves pushed forward straight from the kick off with a darting run down the middle allowing the ball which was laid back to Leanne Robinson who chipped the ball over the keeper from the edge of the area to pull themselves back into the game.

With 5 minutes left of the game, Wolves grabbed themselves an equaliser as a defensive clearance bounced kindly for Jade Cross to run on to and the pacey Striker fired home from the edge of the area.

The game looked like set to end in a draw until Rosie Axten picked up the ball 25 yards out and delivered a crushing blow to the hosts as she fired a dipping shot from distance which flew into the top corner and gave the visitors all 3 points at the end of a dramatic 90 minutes.

AFC Fylde 2 – 7 LCWFC
Date: Sunday 12th November 2017
Competition: FA WPL Northern Division

Having come from behind to win against Wolves last week, confidence was high for Leicester City as they travelled north to AFC Fylde to take on a side who were unbeaten so far in their start to the season.

After a nervy opening to the game, it was the hosts who again took the lead, Captain Charlotte Farrell heading home from a corner to leave Leicester  ending to come from behind again. The Foxes did respond well and took just 8 minutes to level the scores up as Olivia Mitcham was on hand to head home a Paige Stewart free kick at the near post.

The scores remained level until half time despite both clubs having chances to get the lead but both goalkeepers were well placed to keep the scores level.

Jonathan Morgan’s words at half time must have made the desired impact on his players as Hayley a James pulled the foxes in front just a minute into the second half. Sophie Domingo picked the ball up in the centre of the park and her perfectly timed ball for James found the defender with plenty of space to run into and she picked her spot perfectly firing past the keeper at the near post.

Once they gained the lead, Leicester never looked back, with both Domingo and Olivia Mitcham going close in the minutes directly after the goal until Leicester extended their lead with half an hour to play as Hayley James prodded home a corner to grab her 2nd and Leicester’s third of the afternoon.

From here, the floodgates opened for the Foxes, Olivia Mitcham grabbed her second of the day latching onto a short cross from Paige Crossman to slot the ball through the keepers legs. Leicester’s fifth arrived shortly after with substitute Rosie Axten netting from the penalty spot after Sophie Domingo was brought down by the keeper.

At 5-1 up, Leicester could have been forgiven for slowing the game down having already secured the three points however the opposite was the case as Hayley James found time to complete her hat-trick, Paige Crossman’s cross into the box was flicked on by Ellie May at the front post to allow Hayley James arriving at the back post to tap the ball home for Leicester’s 6th of the afternoon.

The Foxes may have saved the best until last in this game as substitute Rosie Axten stepped up to drive a 25 yard free kick into the top corner of the net for the seventh of the afternoon!

There was still time for a consolation goal for the hosts, with a lapse in concentration defensively allowing Lauren Davies through on goal to get a second for the hosts.

Leicester City’s final game of November saw them travel to West Bromwich Albion as they looked to complete a highly successful month which also saw them progress into the next round of the County Cup after Desford Women withdrew.

The Foxes were quickly on the front foot against West Brom and took just 16 minutes to open the scoring, with Olivia Mitcham netting the opener against her former club, sliding the ball home after some good play on the wing from Sophie Domingo. just two minutes later and the Foxes had doubled their lead, Sophie Domingo again providing the assist as she played the ball into space from the centre circle for Rosie Axten to run onto and fire a low shot home to notch for the 5th game in a row.

City deservedly led 2-0 and had a chance to extend their lead as Rosie Axten worked herself some space inside the West Brom half before firing a shot narrowly wide of the far side post. Just before the half time whistle, Leicester were awarded a penalty for a foul on Olivia Mitcham, Rosie Axten stepped up to take the spot kick and confidently firing it low into the bottom left hand corner to hand the visitors a 3-0 half time lead.

Six minutes into the second half, the hosts’ were awarded a penalty after Ria Acton was adjudged to have brought down the striker after the Foxes had failed to clear their lines. New signing Leah Seivwright stepped up for the hosts and converted from the spot to score on her debut, handing the hosts’ a lifeline back into the game.

West Brom continued to apply pressure in search of a way back into the game, Leicester however upped the tempo and killed off any fight back 20 minutes from time as a cross from Paige Stewart was deflected kindly into the path of Shauna Cossens who looped a header back across the goalkeeper to secure a third straight win for Leicester City.
