Leicester City Women Football Club

Two Landmark Achievements Reached

Over the past few weeks, Leicester City Women’s Management team of Jonathan Morgan and Michael Makoni as well as Club Captain Holly Morgan have all crept towards landmark achievements at the club.

Jonathan Morgan and Michael Makoni celebrated their 100th game in charge of the club during the recent home defeat to AFC Guiseley. Whilst the result on the day wasn’t one to celebrate, the duo have overseen a hugely successful period at the club with a win percentage of 70%.

Jonathan Morgan took charge of the Foxes at the start of the 2014/15 season as part of a ‘Management Trio’ alongside James and Ryan. Understandably, the three had differing ideas for matches, and in February 2015, James and Ryan departed the club, with Jonathan stepping up to be First Team Manager, bringing in Michael Makoni from the Reserves to be his assistant.

Despite losing their first game together 4-1 against Leicester Ladies, the pair helped turn the season around and ended up finishing 2nd having narrowly missed out on promotion.

The following season saw a completely different Leicester side as they dominated the league from start to finish, finishing top of the pile and earning promotion back to the Northern Division impressively winning all 22 of their league matches.

Their captain throughout all 4 of their seasons at the club has been Holly Morgan, who also recently celebrated a landmark achievement, reaching 150 appearances for the Foxes.

Holly made her debut for the club at the end of the 2011/12 season in a 2-1 win over Manchester City Ladies. Breaking through in the 2012/13 season with periodic appearances it wasn’t until the 2013/14 season that Holly would become a mainstay in the starting line up, a position she has kept for the past 5 years including stepping up to become Club Captain for the past 4.

Scoring 11 goals over the past few years, Holly can boast a few highlights during her time at the club, captaining the side to the 22 out of 22, title winning season, whilst she also highlighted the growth of the club which is evident and growing, season by season.

Congratulations to all three!
